Temporary treatments that last less than 2 years.
In general, CDI braces and Invisalign treatments last about two years. However, the amount of time can vary from patient-to-patient. Learn more below.
Braces are a temporary treatment meant to correct ‘bad bites’, or malocclusion (teeth that are crowded or crooked).
They are used to fix your bite and allow you to have a beautiful straight smile. Also, and more importantly, they allow your mouth to be healthier. If malocclusion or bad-bites are not addressed in a timely manner, unfortunately, a patient will suffer problems with their oral in the long run.
Your dentists at Cleveland Dental Institute may recommend braces in order to prevent the following problems:
-
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Tooth loss
- Affected speech and/or chewing
- Abnormal wear to tooth enamel
- Jaw problems
Most orthodontic treatments begin between the ages of 8 and 14; this is because it is the time both malocclusion and bad bites are most noticeable.
Traditional wire braces vs. Invisalign
There are a few different types of treatments available, the most common being small brackets cemented to your teeth and connected by wire. We can arrange for these to be either in the front of or behind your teeth. With time, your doctor will tighten the wires so that your both your teeth and jaw will slowly shift and realign.
If our patient would prefer not to have the traditional wire braces, there is an alternative called Invisalign. With this treatment, your doctor will apply a virtually invisible plastic that is worn over your teeth. Invisalign is worn in two-week increments, where after a period of two weeks, a new set of aligners is applied. Like braces, the plastic aligners will move your teeth gradually into place for your perfect smile.
