Traditional braces typically last less than 2 years.

While treatment time will vary based on individual needs, in general, dental braces treatments last around two years. Learn more below.

Traditional braces are a proven orthodontic treatment designed to correct “bad bites,” also known as malocclusion—when teeth are crowded, crooked, or misaligned.

While braces are often associated with creating a straight, confident smile, their benefits go far beyond aesthetics. Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean and maintain, which supports better long-term oral health. When malocclusion is left untreated, it can lead to more serious dental issues over time.

Your CDI Ohio dental team may recommend braces to help prevent:

    • Tooth decay

    • Gum disease

    • Tooth loss

    • Speech or chewing difficulties

    • Excessive or uneven enamel wear

    • Jaw pain or alignment problems

Orthodontic treatment commonly begins between the ages of 8 and 14, as this is when alignment issues and bite concerns are typically most noticeable and easier to correct while the mouth is still developing.

Traditional wire braces vs. clear aligners

There are several orthodontic options available. Traditional dental braces use small brackets that are bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire. Over time, your doctor adjusts the wires to gradually guide your teeth and jaw into proper alignment.

For patients who prefer a more discreet option, clear aligner systems such as ClearCorrect and Invisalign are excellent alternatives. These treatments use custom-made, virtually invisible plastic aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Similar to traditional braces, the aligners gently and gradually shift your teeth into their ideal position—helping you achieve a healthy, beautifully aligned smile.
